Only one episode of “The Good Doctor” has been released, but the Freddie Highmore-starrer has already tugged at the heartstrings of viewers.

Following the ABC series’ premiere on Monday night, viewers got to know Dr. Shaun Murphy (Highmore). The show opens with the doctor with autism attending to a young patient. At first, not many people wanted to follow his instructions in order to save the boy. But he later on proved that he could keep him alive even during unfavorable circumstances.

A series of flashbacks from a time when Shaun and his brother were still very young were also featured in “The Good Doctor.” It was revealed that Shaun didn’t have a good relationship with his father. His mother loved him dearly, but she was afraid of her husband. It was Shaun’s younger brother who looked out for him whenever their parents would punish him. Unfortunately, during one of their escapades with friends, Shaun’s brother got into an accident and died right before his eyes.

During a board meeting at St. Bonaventure Hospital, President Richard Schiff fought for Dr. Murphy’s position at the institution. The other doctors and board members were hesitant to hire him because of his autism. But after watching a viral video of him saving a person, they decided to hire him.

While speaking in front of the heads, Dr. Murphy told them that he decided to become a doctor because he wanted to save his brother, but couldn’t do so because he wasn’t knowledgeable in the field. His story touched the hearts of the board members, and they gave him a big round of applause.

Meanwhile, fans of “The Good Doctor” expressed their delight after watching one episode of the series. Some viewers said that they will continue watching the series in the coming weeks. One fan also predicted that ABC will give the series of a full season order during week five or six. Another fan wondered how Highmore has not won an Emmy considering his great artistry.

“The Good Doctor” Season 1 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
