Good Friday is the Friday directly preceding Easter Sunday. On this day, also known as “Holy Friday,” Jesus Christ died after being crucified under Pontius Pilate’s ruling, according to the Bible. Christians believe on the third day, Easter, he rose from his tomb. In anticipation for Easter, Christians normally observe Good Friday as a day of fasting and penance. To celebrate Good Friday, some verses from the Bible have been provided below:

1. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” –John 3:16-17.

2. “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ –Matthew 27:46

3. “And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” –Mark 10:34

4. “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:7-8

5. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” -1 Peter 2:24

6. “But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.” –Isaiah 53:5

7. “Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.” –Isaiah 53:4-5

8. “It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning.” –Luke 23:54

9. “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.” –Matthew 26.2

10. “When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” –John 19:30
