Google is introducing a new search service designed to assist software engineers.

The search giant said late Wednesday that it will roll out a serviced called Google Code Search, allowing coders to search through existing code and libraries.

Google Code Search makes public source code accessible that historically has been difficult to find in web search, the firm stated. By crawling data that web search crawlers usually ignore - such as .zip files and source code repositories like CVS and Subversion - we are able to connect users to information that has previously been difficult to access.

Searchers can seek out specific programming terms or computer languages or go deep into written code to locate specific features. The searches can be refined to locate specific licensing details and code.
