School is back in session! And not just for us, but for our favorite characters on the hit ABC series “Grey’s Anatomy.”

According to reports, Grey Sloan’s newest interns will be forced to roll up their sleeves during Season 12 of the Shonda Rhimes-created medical drama as they partake in hospital’s recently founded anatomy class. Entertainment Weekly revealed the exciting news, along with a photo of the “high tech lab” filled with not only cadavers – but also eager residents.

It was teased that the long-running show would be returning to its roots, focusing on the drama of the hospital’s newbies instead of just the attendings and chief, when TVLine announced in April that “Reign” actor Giacomo Gianniotti would be joining the cast in the upcoming season. Although Gianniotti’s role wasn’t unveiled, it was speculated that he’d portray an intern during Season 12 of the series.

Jason George, who plays the hunky Dr. Ben Warren, then bolstered the theory that “Grey’s Anatomy” would feature an intern-centric plot. The actor divulged to People magazine that the writers of the successful series “hit reboot” while developing the Season 12 storyline.

“It has that lightness and sense of humor that people fell in love with in the first place,” he added, getting viewers even more excited for the Sept. 24 premiere.

The anatomy class was built following the destruction of MerDer’s mansion. In Season 11, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decided that following the gruesome death of Derek (Patrick Dempsey), she was going to move out of the home that she, Derek and their children shared. So, after a bit of construction, the house that used to belong to the Shepard family, has since evolved into a cadaver lab.

Since the home of Pompeo’s character has been turned into a house of corpses, Meredith will move back into her mother’s home, along with her sisters Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary).

“Right now it's very funny. Those three women are very different and don't have very much in common, which is fantastic," Rhimes told the Hollywood Reporter. "Meredith needs support right now and she is related to them so it's not the same as when she was living with Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. Knight) and liked them. She doesn't necessarily need to like them to love them and be in a house with them. It's a fascinating dynamic — it's family."

“Grey’s Anatomy” will airs its Season 12 premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
