When “Grey’s Anatomy” returns, expect plenty of new characters to be introduced. Episode 13 also serves as a backdoor pilot for the new firefighter spinoff, “Station 19.”

ABC’s synopsis reveals that Ben’s (Jason George) co-worker Andy (Jaina Lee Ortiz) will be the one in a very intense situation. “Seattle firefighters Ben Warren and Andy Herrera head to Grey Sloan after rescuing two boys that are injured in a house fire. With one of the boys’ lives literally in Andy’s hands, her skills are put to the test,” the dramatic summary teases.

Obviously, firefighters don’t usually do much at the hospital. That’s where their job is supposed to end and the doctors take over. However, the promo video for the return of “Grey’s Anatomy” reveals that Andy’s hand is inside a boy’s body. If she moves, the kid could die, so Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will have to help her stay still and confident. Watch the trailer below:

“Grey’s Anatomy” has referenced Ben’s co-workers several times, but this is the first time we’ll get to spend more than a few minutes with them. Andy will be one of the leads on the spinoff “Station 19,” premiering March 22, so expect “Grey’s” to give the new leading lady a lot of screen time.

Don’t worry, we’ll also see more of the doctors we know and love in episode 13, which is titled “You Really Got a Hold on Me.” The surgical contest approved finalists in the last episode, so expect them to be excited as they get started. “The doctors are hard at work on their projects for the Grey Sloan Surgical Innovation Contest,” the synopsis notes.

Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Alex (Justin Chambers) will continue to fight for their brain tumor patient. Amelia will ask her mentor Tom (Greg Germann) for help. “Amelia brings Tom Koracick in to consult on her and Alex’s patient,” the summary says.

Let’s remember that these two hooked up when Tom was last in town, so there might be some awkwardness between the two.

Unfortunately, “Grey’s” fans still have to wait another week for the show to return. ABC has put most of their programming on hiatus during the Olympics. However, “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 returns Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m. EST.
