A “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff may still happen, but a completely new set of writers will be asked to create the script.

According to 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden, the third attempt at an offshoot will center on a woman telling her children how she met their father. While speaking with Deadline, Walden said, “The studio will try making another show with different writers. The writers will be starting from scratch. It’s one that’s being slowly cooked. If it’s the right idea, the right execution, we’ll take that.”

The first attempt at a “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff came three years ago with “How I Met Your Dad.” There were talks about a possible pilot, but it was never released. CBS, the network that released “How I Met Your Mother,” also did not pick up the pilot, but a full script was leaked online.

Last year, “This Is Us” co-executive producers and writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger tried to lead a possible “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff. But with the success of “This Is Us,” the duo never managed to move forward with the pilot.

Meanwhile, “How I Met Your Mother” wrapped up its ninth season on March 31, 2014. Josh Radnor, who played the role of Ted Mosby, spoke with Vulture to share his thoughts on the big mother reveal in the finale. “I always found working with Cristin Milioti to be such a joy, so when it came time to shoot it, I just tried to will myself into the character’s shoes and connect with Cristin and not think of it as this huge, iconic moment. I mean, Ted may be nervous approaching her but he doesn’t know it’s, like, the biggest moment of his life,” he said.

In the finale, it was revealed that Ted’s wife passed away several years ago. This is the reason why Ted ended up pursuing Robin (Cobie Smulders), even though the latter was previously in a relationship with Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). “You also have to wonder what happened in the six years after she died… And there was that comment about Robin always coming over for dinner, so they’ve clearly established a contact and a deep friendship,” he said.
