“Homeland” Season 5 is just weeks away from premiering and Showtime has officially released the synopsis for the first episode. According to the summary for episode 1, “Separation Anxiety,” Carrie Mathison’s (Claire Danes) life will be completely different than it was in the Season 4 closer.

As previously reported, Season 5 of the drama will pick up two and half years after the events in the Season 4 finale. When fans last saw Carrie, she was reeling from the disappearance of her almost lover Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) and the presumed betrayal of her longtime ally Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). In Season 5, episode 1, Carrie’s new life in Berlin will take front and center as she bonds with her new boyfriend Jonas (Alexander Fehling) and daughter Franny (Luna and Lotta Pfitzer).

“The game has changed for Carrie Mathison. Out of the CIA and living in Berlin, Carrie is trying to start a new life,” reveals the synopsis. But, as previously teased by Danes in a Season 5 sneak peek, her normal life won’t last for very long. “She realizes now she’s the one with a target on her back,” adds the summary.

While viewers were left in the dark as to Carrie’s relationship status with Saul after she caught him with speculated two-timing CIA agent Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) in the Season 4 finale, the synopsis makes it clear she no longer has him or Quinn on her side. "As the danger intensifies, and without Saul and Quinn to rely on, one thing becomes clear, she’s never been at greater risk or without more to lose,” reads the summary.

While it remains to be seen what will happen to Carrie in the season opener, the trailer for the upcoming installment shows her in several dangerous situations. At the beginning of the trailer Carrie reveals she will accompany her new “billionaire” boss, Otto Düring (Sebastian Koch), to a war zone. At the end of the teaser Carrie is shown being taken away by two mysterious men and thrown into a vehicle.

“Maybe I knew someday the past would catch up with me,” Carrie says.
