Honda said it would recall a total 646,000 units of the Fit/Jazz and City models globally on Friday.

The recall includes 140,000 in the United States and covers models in South America, Europe, South Africa and Asia, will be affected.

Honda said the recall was to fix a defective master switch, which could fire to break out in the window switches.

To date, there were three reported cases of fires due to the defect, two in the United States and one in South Africa .

Rival Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles in the US to fix potentially lethal accelerator pedals.

Today it widen the recall to include Europe and China.
