The Republican-led House of Representatives will vote on Thursday to postpone a possible shutdown of the government for at least a week, House Speaker John Boehner said on Wednesday.

The anticipated House passage of the short-term funding measure will increase pressure on Senate Democrats, who are demanding instead a bill to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year. Boehner announced the vote at a news conference shortly after a member of his caucus, Representative Jerry Lewis, told reporters of the plan.
