“How To Get Away With Murder” Season 1 will return with episode 2 on Oct. 2. And it seems like the students are starting to realize that Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) has a lot of secrets. In a new sneak peek from E! Online, students theorize why she favors Wes (Alfred Enoch). Check out what we learned in the new clip:

As the students are given the murder book to go through and build a case, Bonnie (Liza Weil) tells Professor Keating that they need to find the third officer that was left off the police report.

“I was thinking we send the puppy,” Bonnie said, referring to Wes.

Annalise brings Wes into her office, and the other four students immediate start theorizing why the professor has some sort of affection for Wes.

“Maybe he's her secret baby,” Asher (Matt McGorry) says. “Maybe she gave him up for adoption and he doesn’t even know.”

It seems Wes is keeping his mouth shut about his run ins with the professor during their first case. Asher obviously isn’t privy to Annalise’s confession that she is being pressured to have kids, but she isn’t quite ready for that. Perhaps she isn’t ready because she already gave a child up? However, Michaela (Aja Naomi King) is quick to dispel that theory.

“Because all black people are related?” she asks, which makes Asher incredibly uncomfortable.

The students continue to wonder why exactly Wes is there, but Bonnie wants them to actually get work done. “Why are any of you here?” Bonnie asks. “That’s the question I’m still asking myself.”
