‘How I Met Your Mother’
Josh Radnor played the role of Father or Ted Mosby in “How I Met Your Mother.” The Mother (Cristin Milioti) was introduced much later in the franchise. Now that a spinoff, “How I Met Your Father,” is in the works, who could play the role of Mother and Father in the sitcom? CBS

Fans of “How I Met Your Mother” have a big reason to rejoice: the show’s spinoff, “How I Met Your Father,” is now in the works.

According to TV Line, the executive producers and writers of “This is Us,” Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, are behind the upcoming TV series. “How I Met Your Father” has been acquired by FOX two and a half years after CBS aired its last episode of “How I Met Your Mother.” The TV show starred Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson, Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky, Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, Alyson Hannigan as Lily Aldrin-Eriksen, Jason Segel as Marshall Eriksen and Cristin Milioti as the Mother. However, none of the original cast members will be featured in the spinoff.

The creators of “How I Met Your Mother,” Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, will also serve as executive producers of “How I Met Your Father.” They will be working closely with Aptaker and Berger.

According to Deadline, “How I Met Your Father” will not be exactly similar to “How I Met Your Mother.” Its major similarity is that the spinoff will be narrated by a woman, who will be telling the story of how she met her spouse.

As of late, the script for “How I Met Your Father” is still being written. In 2014, it was reported that CBS will release a spinoff, “How I Met Your Dad,” starring Greta Gerwig. However, the plans for the show were never finalized. CBS offered to re-pilot “How I Met Your Dad,” but the network couldn’t get into an agreement with 20th Century Fox TV. In the end, the sitcom was picked up only by the latter. There is still no word on when “How I Met Your Father” will premiere.

“How I Met Your Mother” aired its final episode on March 31, 2014 after being on air for nine seasons.
