The cast of “Ice Road Truckers” took to social media to share emotional words about the loss of their co-star, Darrell Ward. Ward, 52, died in small plane crash over the weekend after leaving The Great American Truck Show in Dallas, Texas.

A press release on Ward’s death was posted on the reality star’s Facebook page Sunday evening. According to the statement, the “Montana Legend” was on his way to Missoula to begin filming a “new documentary style show involving the recovery of plane wrecks.” The National Transportation Safety Board is handling an investigation into what caused Ward’s crash, which also killed his co-pilot.

“Ice Road Truckers” star Todd Dewey took to his Facebook page on Monday to share photos and kind words about Ward.

“I am out a good friend and awesome father, a fellow trucker, we talked every week on the phone between traveling,” Dewey wrote. “I’m at a loss of words. RIP my friend. Some day we will hang out again. Luv u buddy.”

Series newcomer Steph Custance also took to Facebook to react to her co-star’s death.

“My heart sincerely goes out to the family, friends and fans of Darrell Ward,” she posted. “There are no words. He was a great man, awesome to work with and I am very, very sorry to anyone who is affected by the loss of this man. May he rest in peace.”

History Channel, the network which airs “Ice Road Truckers,” also released their own statement on the death of Ward.

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of Darrell Ward, a beloved member of the HISTORY family. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
