NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. released a new trailer for “Injustice 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to 2013’s “Injustice: Gods Among Us.” The new trailer provides fans with a look at the upcoming game’s storyline, as well as confirmation of new DC Comics characters joining the roster.

The new “Injustice 2” trailer includes a short recap of Superman’s fall from grace in the first game showing his murder of the Joker. The actual first appearance of Superman in the trailer shows him chained up in a cell with Batman looking down on him.

The new trailer also shows Supergirl witnessing the destruction of a planet and Bataman fighting Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son and the current Robin. There’s also a small tease for new villains joining the game, Bane and Poision Ivy. The final part of the trailer shows Supergirl fighting Wonder Woman with Superman and Batman arriving to intervene.

What’s actually most interesting about the new “Injustice 2” trailer is the character narrating it. “Curious how lines once clearly defined become blurred,” he says in the clip. “Perhaps it is time for them to be redrawn.” The trailer then ends with the reveal of Brainiac, one of Superman’s most notorious supervillains who is also known for challenging the entire Justice League. Although details on the game's storyline are thin, it seems like Brainiac sees an opportunity to attack while the hereos are fighting each other.

As if that wasn’t enough to hype up “Injustice 2,” the trailer also informs fans that if they pre-order now, they would also be getting Darkseid as a special character. Since Darkseid is a special character, he may not play a huge role in the game’s storyline.

“Injustice 2” is scheduled to be released on May 16 for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The regular version of the game sells for $59.99 from the Sony PlayStation Store.

There’s a $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition and a $99.99 Ultimate Edition as well. The Deluxe Edition includes 3 DLC characters, 1 premiere skin and 1 gear shader pack, while the Ultimate Edition comes with 9 DLC fighters, 3 skins and 2 exclusive gear shader packs.
