“Divergent" fans who were unsatisfied with the brief teaser for the sequel “Insurgent” released last month won’t have to wait much longer for a full-length trailer. Lionsgate, the studio behind the blockbuster film series, revealed on Twitter Monday that a new trailer will debut online Friday, Dec. 12.

In addition to the trailer announcement, the studio released the first official still from the movie. The photo features the film's lead actors, Shailene Woodley (Tris Prior), Theo James (Four) and Ansel Elgort (Caleb Prior).

"Insurgent” will follow the events of the first film "Divergent," released in March of 2014. Based on the young adult book trilogy by Veronica Roth, the movie stars Woodley as Tris, a person classified as a "Divergent" in a dystopian future where all people fall into five distinct factions. Unfortunately for her character, Divergents are considered dangerous and something that needs to be exterminated.

Also returning to the cast are actors Miles Teller, Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer and Zoe Kravitz. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke, who Variety reports Lionsgate has already brought on to direct the third film in the franchise, “Allegiant – Part 1.”

Yes, it appears that the “Divergent” films will be taking a page out of other popular young adult novels turned movie franchises like “Twilight,” “Harry Potter” and “The Hunger Games” by splitting its final book into two parts.

The second film in this action-packed young adult franchise is scheduled to hit theaters March 20, 2015. "Allegiant-- Part 1" is set to debut in March of 2016 with "Allegiant-- Part 2" following in March of 2017.

"Divergent" fans can check back on Friday to catch their first glimpse of first full-length trailer for "Insurgent." Until then, they can catch up on the teaser trailer below:
