The Villanueva girls all rooted for Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) to end up with Michael Cordero (Brett Dier), with the possible exception of Alba (Ivonne Col) who always thought that Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) is a good match for her granddaughter. This, and the fact that Alba thinks Jane’s baby daddy is pretty hot had her joining Team Rafael.

In Season 4 of “Jane the Virgin,” Alba and Rafael will get the chance to bond now that the hotelier has been kicked out of the Marbella Hotel by his sister, Luisa (Yara Martinez). Rafael is crashing in Jane’s house “with his Bowflex and all his protein drinks,” executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman told TV Line.

“He sort of takes over the Villanueva house, and it does create a stress in [his] relationship [with Jane]. He forms an unexpected bond with Alba, who is Team Rafael,” she added.

Will Alba’s bond with Rafael help him get back together with Jane? His pursuit of his baby mama might be put on hold because of the reappearance of Jane’s first love, Adam (Tyler Posey). Urman said that Adam is going to remind Jane “that she’s not just a mom, and that she can be doing a little bit more wild and crazy, 27-year-old kind of stuff.”

Meanwhile, Baldoni earlier told TV Guide that he’s hoping for Jane and Rafael to find their way back to each other. “I’m such a romantic; I do think Jane and Rafael belong together,” he said. “They come from different worlds. They’re so different. [But] the journey they've been on, the destiny, the fate, the heartbreak, the struggle - I think those are things that make a great marriage. I think those are things that we all root for.”

This was not the first time Baldoni discussed Jane and Rafael’s future. He gave fans some hope earlier that Jane would live happily ever after with Rafael when he told Hollywood Life: “There’s a chance they could be endgame. But I mean, I don’t know. We’ll see. There’s a few more years left.”

“But at the end of the day, I think the two could very well seem meant to be. They’ve had a lot of challenges, and we’ll see. If it’s what the fans want, then maybe it’s possible. I don’t know what the show creator has in mind,” he added.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 will return on The CW on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. EDT.
