Jennifer Lawrence, Darren Aronofsky

Jennifer Lawrence’s relationship with Darren Aronofsky may have ended due in part to their actress-director partnership.

Lawrence, who recently starred in “Mother!” admitted that she’s not fond of reading reviews of her films because she thinks it’s unhealthy to read the comments and be affected by them. However, Aronofsky, who directed “Mother!” had something else in mind.

While speaking with Adam Sandler on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” (via People), Lawrence said that Aronofsky would get affected by the reviews.

“We’d be on tour together. I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie. He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about and I get it. It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it. I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about ‘Mother!’ for one second?’” she said.

There have also been instances wherein Aronosfky read the reviews to Lawrence and at one point she asked him to stop because it became unhealthy. “‘It’s not healthy. Neither of us are doing it because if I read it, I start getting defensive.’ Especially because it’s my man,” she explained.

But while speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence acknowledged that she wasn’t surprised by the mixed reactions they received from viewers. “There is no middle ground. We knew that it was divided. That’s what was so exciting – everybody is going to feel something. It’s going to create a conversation. It’s going to create a controversy. Nobody is going to leave not getting something from it,” she said.

Lawrence did not directly confirm that these issues are what brought her and Aronofsky apart. But their split made headlines last week. A source told Entertainment Tonight that the estranged couple is still friends despite splitting in October. They were last seen together at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles, but they were no longer dating at that time.
