A married teacher in a high school in Maine who has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor student was indicted by York County grand jury Tuesday on 14 counts of sexual assault charges arising from an investigation into the alleged relationship, police said Wednesday.

Jill Lamontagne, 29, teaching at a Kennebunk high school turned herself into the Kennebunk Police on Wednesday following the judgment by the York County grand jury. Her charges included six counts of abuse of a minor, six counts of gross sexual assault, and two counts of unlawful sexual contact, the Portland Press Herald reported. She was booked on the charges and was later released on $1000 bail.

"The indictment was the culmination of an investigation into a relationship Lamontagne allegedly had with a juvenile, male student while she was a teacher at the school," Kennebunk Deputy Chief of Police Michael Nugent said Wednesday, according to Seacoast Online.

Lamontagne resigned from her position at the school after the allegations and it was accepted on Sept. 18. Before this, she was placed on administrative leave since June 12 after which she filed for family medical leave and remained on leave till the time of filing her resignation in September.

Lamontagne allegedly had a relationship with one of her male students, 17, who was in her health class at Kennebunk High School. The court documents stated that the 29-year-old teacher was involved in sexual acts several times with the student "in the classroom, in her car and at her house," Seacoast Online reported.

Her allegations came to the spotlight in June when a protection from abuse order filed by the student's mother and granted in Biddeford District Court ordered the teacher to further have no contact with the 17-year-old student.

The abuse order said that the relationship between the two was disclosed after the student was said to have been hospitalized following an alleged suicide attempt.

The student was hospitalized after ingesting a concoction of ibuprofen, Tylenol, cold medicine, and blood thinner Warfarin, according to the Press Herald.

The boy confessed about their relationship to his aunt while he was hospitalized. His mother wrote in the abuse order that apart from being engaged in numerous sexual acts, the teacher also performed oral sex on him, adding that "other stuff happened," according to the student.

Scott Gardner, Lamontagne’s lawyer, said his client denies all the allegations and has planned to plead not-guilty when she is arraigned. Her York County Superior Court appearance has been set for Dec. 22, ABC affiliate WMTW News reported.

"The charges are completely untrue, period," Gardner said. "These allegations arise from a high school rumor which consisted of the fantasies of an emotionally troubled 18-year-old."

The student also alleged that Lamontagne told him she had no sexual relationship with anyone for two years. However, court records reportedly claimed that she has been married and has children, according to the Press Herald.

If Lamontagne is convicted of the crime, she could face up to five years in prison as it is a Class C felony for a teacher to engage in sexual contact with a minor or someone under age of 18 years, who is under their care.
