Josh Hutcherson has led plenty of movies, but TV is a new venture for him. The “Hunger Games” alum told International Business Times that it was the script’s creativity and humor that drew him to Hulu’s “Future Man.”

“It was like the originality and knowing the minds, or thinking that you know the minds, of Seth [Rogen] and Evan [Goldberg] and what they’re going to create,” Hutcherson told IBT at New York Comic Con.

Rogen and Goldberg, who are responsible for movies like “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express” as well as the TV show “Preacher,” are executive producing the raunchy sci-fi comedy, and they directed the pilot episode. The Hulu comedy focuses on Hutcherson’s character, Josh Futterman, a janitor who discovers his video game isn’t as fictional as he thought.

The post-apocalyptic world of the game is real and so are the characters. After Futterman becomes the first person to complete the game, Tiger (Eliza Coupe) and Wolf (Derek Wilson) believe he is their savior. They collect their Futterman from 2017 and bring him to the past to stop someone from deciding to create a cure for herpes (because that will lead to the apocalypse).

Hutcherson was excited to work on something different. While he had a few guest starring gigs on TV shows in the early 2000s, this is his first big role on the small screen. Between the “Hunger Games” franchise, the “Journey to the Center of the Earth” films and “Red Dawn,” the 25-year-old has definitely had his fair share of action/adventure projects. However, this is his first time making audiences laugh.

“For me, I’ve ever done comedy before. I’ve never done TV before. And so to dive into something that is extremely different and original with really fun characters and knowing too that the show had unlimited places that it could go, because it’s time travel and their minds, so really like the only limit is how much money they’ll give us to make it,” he laughed.

For Hutcherson’s co-star Eliza Coupe, the opposite is true. She is best known for her comedic roles on “Happy Endings” and “Scrubs.” Playing a tough resistance leader trying to save the world is a dream job.

“I’ve always said I’ve wanted to do action and comedy. I’ve always wanted to do Marvel,” Coupe told IBT. “I love that stuff so much, and so when I read this I was like, ‘Yes! This is perfect.’ It’s comedy. It’s crazy, but it’s like grounded.”

Fans can watch the actors try something new now on Hulu. The entire first season of “Future Man” was released Tuesday.
