A jury in Los Angeles decided that millionaire James Fayed should receive capital punishment for masterminding the murder of his wife at a Century City parking garage.

James Fayed was convicted of murder two weeks ago in the stabbing death of 44-year-old Pamela Fayed by a hired man on July 28, 2008. Fayed was also convicted of conspiring to murder the accomplices.

The couple had been in the midst of a bitter divorce and battle over their gold-trading business.

In a secretly recorded conversation with a cellmate, Fayed admitted to arranging his wife's murder and paying the attacker.

Fayed's defense attorney is requesting that his life be spared for life in prison without parole.
