Kanye West appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday to end the “rap feud” as Kimmel has called it, and the rapper admitted that his ego might have played a part in escalating the fight.

‘‘That elevates sometimes,’’ West said. ‘‘Jimmy does his thing, I do my thing, and at some point egos can flare up, and we kind of took it back to high school.’’

The feud ensued after Kimmel spoofed West’s interview with BBC Radio, resulting in the 36-year-old rapper taking to Twitter to voice out his objection against the sketch. West said that although he does not always approve of the way the media projects him, on most occasions, he keeps his opinion to himself.

But with Kimmel, he took out his frustration because the talk show host was someone whom he knew personally, having previously met at a wedding.

On Wednesday, Kimmel admitted on the show that he had only seen parts of West’s BBC interview before approving the skit, and added that he did not realize how personal it was.

“I’m not running for office,” West said. “I’m just here to make good music, make people feel good when they hear my music, and you know, when I did that interview (with BBC), I was really vocal with a lot of things I’ve been dealing with in the past 10 years.”

West continued: “To me, I’m a creative genius, there’s no other way to word it. You’re not supposed to say that about yourself, and I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention’s always positive.”

When Kimmel pointed out that most people think West is a “jerk” because he blows his own trumpet, West said that he would be lying to himself if he did not call himself a genius.

“I'm totally weird and totally honest and I'm totally inappropriate sometimes, and the thing is for me not to say I'm not a genius I'd be lying to you and to myself.’’

The 30-minute exchange touched upon West’s music, his interest in fashion, his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, and the paparazzi.

West added that he disapproved of the way paparazzi treated him and his family, and issued a warning: “Don’t try to antagonize me, because it’s not safe for you in this zoo, you know? Never think that I'm not from Chicago for one second.’’
