Kanye West is clearing up rumors about his involvement in the Illuminati – and it’s all because of Jay Z’s Tidal press conference. Following the launch of the two-tiered music service in late March, rumors began to circulate that Tidal was created by members of the mysterious organization beloved by conspiracy-mongers. According to West, that’s just “ridiculous.”

In an interview with Paper magazine, the same publication that featured naked Kim Kardashian (his wife), Kanye West voiced his opinion on the rumors surrounding Tidal and Jay Z. Social media users have long speculated that Jay Z and his wife Beyoncé are part of the Illuminati, an alleged group of global masterminds embedded deep within politics, entertainment and other industries. The group is said to want to “control the planet,” according to Complex.

“If there was actually an Illuminati, it would be more like the energy companies,” West told the magazine. “Not celebrities that gave their life to music and who are pinpointed as decoys for people who really run the world.”

West continued that he’s “tired” of musicians getting linked to the supposed group and that it’s “ridiculous.”

“We don’t run anything; we’re celebrities,” he added. “We’re the face of brands. We have to compromise what we say in lyrics so we don’t lose money on a contract.”

Kanye isn’t the only one who commented on the Illuminati rumors. Madonna took to Instagram only last month to address those who believe that Tidal and those involved are linked to the Illuminati.

“If you refer to Tidal as Illuminati, you are paying us the highest of compliments,” she posted. “As I’ve stated before, it is another name for ‘The Enlightened Ones’ a group of scientists, philosophers and artists that emerged after the dark ages. They changed and shaped the world for the better! Do the research and find out for yourself! #Knowledge is power.”
