Kate Middleton and her family will be breaking away from the traditional royal Christmas celebration this year. It’s been revealed that Middleton, her husband Prince William and their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will spend the holiday with her parents instead of with Queen Elizabeth II and the other royals.

The Mirror reported that the family of four plans to enjoy their Christmas at Middleton’s parents’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire. Usually, the royal family celebrates the festive holiday together at the Queen’s Sandringham estate.

Prince Harry is expected to join his family for Christmas, which means he won’t be spending it with girlfriend Meghan Markle. The “Suits” actress has been spending the past few days with Harry, but is said to return home and spend Christmas with her family in Los Angeles.

This isn’t the first time Middleton and Prince William have decided to forgo the royal family’s Christmas celebration. In 2012, when the Duchess of Cambridge was still pregnant with Prince George, they spent the holiday with her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

Prince William and his family will however partake in other royal traditions leading up to Christmas and after the holiday. People magazine reported that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with their young children, will most likely be at the royal family’s Christmas Eve soccer game. Middleton and Prince William will also join other royals for the Boxing Day Pheasant Shoot on Dec. 26.

In March, the 34-year-old mother of two reflected on her first Christmas with the royal family during an interview for “Our Queen at Ninety” to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday. Middleton revealed that she didn’t know what to get the queen for Christmas so she decided to take a risk and make her grandmother’s chutney.

“I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table,” she said. “I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I’ve noticed since she’s done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”
