“Titanic” star Kate Winslet recently shared some of the lessons she learned from filming the 1997 blockbuster movie.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight over the weekend, Winslet said that the film, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, taught her the importance of thinking ahead. “When you read the script, Jack and Rose run through the flooded dining room. You have to know that’s gonna be five days of shooting, because it was five days of shooting. So it certainly helped me when I was reading this script. You just have to be very realistic about what was going to be required of us as actors,” she said.

In 2008, Winslet reunited with her “Titanic” co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, in the film, “Revolutionary Road.” Last year, the actress told People that her co-star hasn’t changed since they first starred in a film together. “He’s a solid, loyal person. He’s a great friend, he always had been, and not just to me, but to everyone around him. He still has friends he had when we made ‘Titanic,’” she said.

Meanwhile, Winslet stars in the upcoming movie, “The Mountains Between Us,” alongside Idris Elba. In the film, the co-stars had to be in freezing temperatures every single day as they shot the film mostly at the peak of the Canadian Rookies. Talking about this experience, the award-winning actress said, “I’ve never had so much luggage in my life with you know, the warm weather clothing… the cold weather clothing and the boots and the scarves. I would have to allow 40 minutes every day just to make sure I had the layers right, the hot packs on, and really be prepared. I would go up the mountains with my little backpack of my own survival stuff.”

In “Titanic,” it was DiCaprio’s character, Jack, that plunged into the cold water towards the end of the film. But in “The Mountains Between Us,” Winslet experienced a similar thing. According to the actress, she was aware of the fact that it would be extremely cold. “But at the same time, nothing can fully prepare you for how cold it is,” she said.

“The Mountains Between Us” is slated to hit theaters in the United States on Oct. 6.
