“Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 will see patriarch Kevin (Kevin James) morphing into a “super dad” following his wife Donna’s (Erinn Hayes) death.

While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Rob Long revealed that Kevin will drive his entire family crazy by trying to get involved in their lives. For instance, when Kendra’s (Taylor Spreitler) fiancé, Chale (Ryan Cartwright), reveals that his visa won’t be renewed, Kevin will step up and prepare a wedding that his son has always dreamed of. However, Kevin would have to pull everything off within 48 hours or Chale could be sent back home. Long’s revelation also confirmed that Kendra and Chale will finally tie the knot after going back and forth about it with Kevin in Season 2.

Meanwhile, Leah Remini has signed on as a series regular for Season 2, which means her character, Vanessa, will be with Kevin more often in the upcoming episodes. Vanessa will also play a huge role in making Kendra and Chale’s wedding happen. And since she knows a guy at the immigration, Vanessa will be pulling some strings for Kevin’s daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law.

Vanessa will also help Kevin secure a job now that Donna is no longer around. She has a private security business and is struggling with it, so she will hire Kevin. This will result in the two characters working together side-by-side every day.

There have been speculations about Kevin and Vanessa potentially developing feelings for each other since Kevin’s wife is no longer around. But Long told TV Line last week that this is something they’re trying to veer away from.

“Honestly, we’re trying not to put them in a romantic relationship. I know that sounds crazy! These two actors have incredibly fun chemistry together, but they’re also great antagonists. So as much as there’s a lot of snap and crackle on screen, there’s also a lot of fun in watching two people not get along. We’re just really enjoying these two people working together and having a working relationship, which is something this series never dealt with before,” he said.

“Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 will premiere on CBS on Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. EDT.
