Characters have come and gone on “Game of Thrones,” but there’s one fans just aren’t ready to let go of yet. Khal Drogo died during Season 1 and rumors are swirling that he may be returning to the show in Season 7.

Stories began swirling after a photo of Jason Momoa, who played the character on the show for part of one season, posing alongside writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss surfaced on Instagram late last week. Speculation grew on Friday after the actor shared a piece of fan art which appeared to show Drogo as a white walker. In his photo caption, Momoa wrote that fans were “Lucky my wife burned me” so neither they nor any of the show’s current cast had to deal with his wrath. In closing he wrote, “GOT Fo life.” The photos left fans hopeful that, like Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Drogo may return from the dead. TMZ reports, however, that that is not the case. Sources say that Momoa is most definitely not filming with the “Game of Thrones” crew at the moment.

The photo in question was taken Aug. 20. It showed the former “Game of Thrones” star and two showrunners enjoying a brew together in Ireland at the Guinness Brewery. The famous beer company reportedly love Momoa and his character so much, they named a brew in his honor. The actor posed with a bottle of Mano Brew on Instagram, flashing the elaborately designed label at the camera.

While “Game of Thrones” fans hold out hope for blasts from the past, current cast members have their sights locked firmly on the present. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Harington was asked about what he plans to do after the show ends for good in Season 8. The British actor revealed to the publication that he has yet to make a decision about his next career move and is, instead, reveling in having had the chance to be a part of such a great show.

“It has been in my consciousness a lot,” he said. “This mammoth, goliath event in my life, which has so much of what my 20s are, is going to come to an end. I think I’m going to really make the effort in these next two years to enjoy every moment of it, because I don’t know when I’ll get something like this coming around again.”

Harington’s uncertainty extends to the “Game of Thrones” set and it seems he’s not the only one on edge about what’s to come. During an interview with The Wrap he touched on the possibility of Jon dying again, telling the publication that he felt it was unlikely. He joked that after being brought back to life in Season 6, it would be terrible storytelling on the writers’ parts to have him killed off again. Sophie Turner, on the other hand, knows that death could come for anyone — even Sansa Stark. While chatting with Variety she acknowledged the show’s ending, saying she knew it couldn’t go on forever. She also touched on the fact that the show wrapping could bring with it a lot of carnage and she’s ready. Turner has even thought about how she’d like to go out, if that’s what the Gods — along with Benioff and Weiss — have planned for her.

“A long slow episode-lasting death, where it’s just one long scene of my death and no one else,” she said. “And it’s going to be the last episode of the last season.”

“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO for Season 7 in spring 2017.
