Rap legend Kidd Creole was arrested and charged Wednesday night for stabbing a homeless man to death in New York, reports said.

According to a Rolling Stone report, the rapper, who was a member of the pioneering hip-hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, was taken into custody after he was identified by a surveillance video camera near the crime spot on the night of the incident.

“On Tuesday, Aug. 1, police responded to a 911 call of a male possibly stabbed at East 44 Street and 3 Avenue within the confines of the 17 Precinct. Upon arrival, police observed a 55-year-old male with multiple stab wounds to the torso. EMS also responded and transported the male to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased... The investigation is ongoing,” a police report obtained by Rolling Stone stated.

The 57-year-old Creole, whose real name is Nathaniel Glover, allegedly got into a fight with the deceased — identified as John Jolly— resulting in the fatal stabbing, Daily Mail Online reported.

According to a TMZ report, the matter escalated when the victim hurled a gay slur at the rapper, who stabbed Jolly several times with a small knife.

A police source told NY Daily News: “He [Glover] had a run-in with Jolly [ the victim], who was drunk. They had no prior relationship. They had words. Things got out of hand. It was some sort of diss. He [Glover] gave some statements and he's being charged.”

Another source said the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding by Glover who thought the victim —a convicted sex offender — was hitting on him.

“He turned, interpreting that the guy was making an advance toward him. One thing led to another, and he shivved him twice in the chest,” the source was quoted in the report.

Glover was set to perform with the Furious Five at the Dell Music Centre in Philadelphia on Aug. 20, but it is still unclear if he would be taking the stage after the incident.

In a statement to HipHopDX, Rahiem, one of the members of the Furious Five, said: “It’s definitely a downer. It’s an unfortunate circumstance. We don’t really have all the information of what happened, but I would just go out on a limb and say this person he had the incident with was a homeless person, so I can only assume he may be asked him for money, and maybe based on how he responded, he and the homeless man exchanged words. I don’t know, but that’s what it seemed based on what the Daily News reported. I believe he’s incarcerated, so I don’t think we will have an opportunity to speak with him and get his side of the story directly.”
