Kim Kardashian is facing backlash after she tweeted out a photo of a diamond-encrusted handgun just weeks after urging the public to sign a pledge to help combat gun violence following the Sandy Hook massacre.

The reality TV star shared on Saturday of an image of the gold and platinum gun that glittered along its handle with diamonds, but she quickly deleted the image after critical comments began flooding in. While some complemented Kardashian's move, most said they found her actions hypocritical.

“@KimKardashian You have too much influence to be this blind and ignorant. Innocent children & people still die even if the gun is pretty,” one of her followers tweeted, in response to the image, according to ABC News.

“Kim Kardashian is quite dense, isn't she? Pledging to support the gun control movement and then uploading pictures of designer handguns ...,” another person tweeted, according to the Daily Mail.

In mid-January, Kardashian took to Twitter to pledge her own support for gun-violence awareness, after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., which left 26 people dead, most of them children.

“Today, people in Newtown are making the #sandyhookpromise to reduce gun violence. Sign the pledge with me,” she tweeted at the time.

Last June, Kardashian shared a photo of an Yves Saint Laurent-plated pistol with the caption, “Bang, Bang” on her Instagram account. Kim Kardashian, her sisters, Kourtney and Khloe, and their mother, Kris, have also reportedly visited a shooting range, to learn how to properly shoot a gun. The women hit the gun range after one of their retail stores was vandalized, the UK Sun reported.

In August, an image of Kardashian, holding a Beretta shotgun while on a family vacation surfaced.
