The Knick
Thackery (Clive Owen, left) comforts Abigail (Jennifer Ferrin) in episode 4 of "The Knick" Season 2. Cinemax

Episode 3 of Cinemax's "The Knick" Season 2 was a parade of unexpected -- and in many cases unwelcome -- reunions. Dr. Thackery (Clive Owen) was visited by the syphilis-suffering Abigail (Jennifer Ferrin), Barrow (Jeremy Bobb) had an ominous run-in with former-Collier (Danny Hoch) and henchman Jimmy (Happy Anderson), and Edwards (Andre Holland), well, had to introduce his family to his suddenly-in-town wife, Opal (Zaraah Abrahams). How will all the fresh blood (no pun intended) shake things up at the Knickerbocker in episode 4, "Wonderful Surprises"?

According to the synopsis for the new episode, Abigail's syphilis symptoms are growing worse, prompting Thackery try to treat her with his new fever induction method. Thackery and Edwards spent most of episode 3 toying with the experimental procedure, which makes use of the fever chamber Edwards had installed in Thack's absence, but they did not get beyond testing the treatment on pigs. Will Thackery be able to save his former lover's life or will his rush to action result in another person's death? He has been haunted this season by visions of the girl he killed during a hastily conceived blood transfusion procedure.

Meanwhile, Edwards "comes clean" to his wife about why he left her in Europe -- will he tell her about Cornelia (Juliet Rylance)? -- but he does not get the response he expects. How will this couple's new-to-the-show relationship play out? He did not look happy to see her in episode 3, but a scene from the promo for episode 4 shows the pair dancing and Edwards even appears to crack a smile!

Then, there is Cleary (Chris Sullivan) and Sister Harriet (Cara Seymour). The ambulance driver is running out of options to get the money to pay Harry's lawyer, especially with Cornelia's husband nixing her plan to foot the bill. Will Cleary be able to save the ill-fated nun? At the risk of spreading false hope, a promo photo from the episode (seen below) shows what looks to be a very happy Cleary giving a seemingly very relieved Harry a ride -- outside of prison! Perhaps these two have some Irish luck left in them after all!
