The script for “Anchorman 2” is still being written, but anxious fans will be excited to hear of new rumors that have Kristen Wiig appearing in the film as the love interest of Brick Tamland, played by Steve Carell.

The Wrap reported Paramount Pictures is salivating at the prospect getting Wiig in the wake of her “Bridesmaids” success. Since leaving “Saturday Night Live” at the end of last season, Wiig has been one of the busiest actresses in Hollywood, starring in “Imogene,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She’s also filming roles in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and “Hateship Friendship” with Guy Pearce.

While Wiig is apparently still in the negotiation phase of her contract, she has worked with some of the minds behind “Anchorman 2.” Judd Apatow is producing the film and is coming off the success of “Bridesmaids,” which made Wiig a household name for its raunchy depiction of a bridal party at odds in the leadup to one friend’s wedding. Apatow is currently promoting “This is 40” and executive produced the first season of HBO’s “Girls.”

Wiig rose through the “SNL” ranks for her ability to serve a variety of wacky characters, not the least of which were impressions of personal finance guru Suze Orman and Rep. Michele Bachman. For fans, her dynamic with the idiotic Brick Tamland -- whose quotes from the first “Anchorman” were plastered across T-shirts everywhere -- could be irresistible.

“Anchorman 2” is slated for release in October 2013 and, at this point, the only actors certain to appear are the main news team of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner.
