Kylie Jenner Lips

Kylie Jenner issued a strange response after the lip challenge named after her went viral Monday. Thousands of fans posted pictures of their bruised and swollen lips to Instagram and Twitter -- the gruesome result of trying to emulate Jenner’s puffy pout.

Jenner, 17, has long denied she underwent plastic surgery to create her luscious lips. And when she finally responded to the #KylieJennerChallenge, she didn’t say people should not participate. Nor did she share how she achieves her “natural” pout. Instead, she just said people should have fun with their appearance and be true to themselves.

"I'm not here to encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look," she wrote in one tweet. "I want to encourage people/young girls like me to be YOURSELF & not be afraid to experiment w your look," she finished in another. The messages were shared and liked thousands of times by her 9.82 million followers.

It’s unknown who started the “Kylie Jenner Challenge,” but Business Insider wrote YouTuber Brendan Jordan might have helped the trend grow its viral reach.

Whether or not people are sucking on a glass to get lips like Jenner's because they like the look, or just want to make a mockery of the trend, they shouldn’t. For one, it hurts. It also leads to bleeding, bruising and the splitting of the lip. In some cases, it can even cause permanent damage, Dr. Dendy Engelman, a dermatologist, told Seventeen.com. Teens who participate in the challenge suffer the "potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts."

Jenners famous sisters -- Kendall, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney -- have not responded to the #KylieJennerChallenge. “Momager” Kris Jenner did not issue a statement either.

“KUWTK” is in its 10th season and runs on E! every Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT.
