A shooting in Lakeside, Calif., has reportedly left two sheriff's deputies wounded on Tuesday shortly after 12:15 p.m., according to officials.

According to the San Diego Sheriff's department, multiple shots were fired at Ashwood St. and Mapleview St. just south of the Lakeside rodeo. The Sherriff's department source added that two child abuse detectives were at an apartment nearby when the incident first took place.

Resident Jodi Davis, who lives across the street from where the shooting occurred, told the local NBC affiliate that he “heard a lot of shots being fired. Multiple shots, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,” she said. “At least 12 to 18 shots being fired ... I said 'Oh my gosh, those are gunshots!'"

She added that the police ordered her and her neighbors back into their apartments.

While reporters at the scene said there are officers from multiple agencies, NBC 7 in San Diego reports that one patient arriving at Sharp Memorial Hospital was shirtless on the first gurney coming out of the Lakeside Fire District paramedics' van.

That ambulance was followed by another carrying a victim covered by a medical cloth, according to the news outlet.

NBC 7 is also reporting that a suspect was taken into custody to Mercy Hospital

The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.
