Actress Lauren Ambrose has been confirmed to play Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of "Funny Girl," according to E! Online.

Ambrose will play the part made famous by the legendary Barbra Streisand, who starred in the original production and subsequent movie adaptation.

"Let's face it, there is obviously more than a lot to live up to playing Fanny Brice, but I am humbled and thrilled by the opportunity to be a part of this revival," Ambrose said in a statement.

This will certainly be a different role for Ambrose, who is better known for playing somber, brooding characters. Younger fans will remember her as the sharp but surly love interest of Seth Green's character in the teen romantic comedy "Can't Hardly Wait."

Ambrose was a major cast member of the hit TV show "Six Feet Under." In the show, she played Claire Fisher, an emotional artist.

She has kept busy since the show's end in 2005, having played several parts in film and TV. She also did voiceover work for the film "Where the Wild Things Are."

And in case you were wondering, yes, Ambrose can sing. She was trained in voice and opera at the prestigious Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

There is no doubt that Ambrose will bring a fresh approach to the classic character.
