Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 2 back in September, but it looks like the Chinese phone maker is already working on its successor. An alleged Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 back panel has leaked online and it appears as though the upcoming phone will have a dual camera setup.

The alleged back panel of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 was first shared on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo and was picked up by Slash Leaks. The back panel shows that the phone will have a vertically aligned dual-camera setup that looks pretty similar to the back camera module of Apple’s iPhone X.

The original Mi Mix and the Mi Mix 2 both featured single camera setups on their backs. If this leaked back panel is legit, then Xiaomi is finally adding a dual-camera setup for the Mi Mix 3. Xiaomi already has a lot of Android Mi-branded smartphones that feature dual cameras on the back and adding it on the Mi Mix 3 seems like a no brainer at this point.

What’s interesting here is that the company decided to go with the vertical placement rather than the standard horizontal position that’s on its other smartphones. Perhaps Xiaomi is trying to copy the design of the iPhone X in order to get the attention of consumers. However, Xiaomi has done vertical dual cameras before with the Mi5s Plus. But that camera setup has the lenses directly above the fingerprint scanner and not on the upper left side.

The leaked back panel also has a circular cutout for a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The placement of the fingerprint sensor is similar to what users would see on the Mi Mix 2. This may also indicate that the Mi Mix 3 won’t feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. The alleged back panel of the Mi Mix 3 also has the “Mi MIX DESIGNED BY XIAOMI” branding.

There’s no way of telling if this leaked back panel for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is authentic, but it’s possible that this is just one of the prototypes that the company is currently working on, as pointed out by GSM Arena. There’s also the possibility that the final, consumer-ready version of the device has a different design, so fans should manage their expectations.

It’s too early to tell what the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 specs will be. What’s certain however is that the upcoming handset will continue to have a “bezel-less,” full screen design. The popular rumor right now is that Xiaomi might be planning on delivering a screen-to-body ratio that’s close to 100 percent, according to Gizmo China.

Rumors and leaks on the Mi Mix 3 are expected to keep popping up online in the next few months as Xiaomi prepares to launch new phones early next year. The Xiaomi Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus are expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2018. Phone Arena speculates that Xiaomi could launch the Mi Mix 3 a lot earlier than expected, possibly sometime during the first half of 2018.
