As fans of the CW’s hit superhero shows “Arrow” and “The Flash” will know, there’s nothing more difficult than waiting for massive cliffhangers to be resolved when the shows return from their respective holiday breaks. Fortunately for viewers, the wait for their 2016 return will be easier as it comes with a third installment in the canon universe, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”
As previously reported, the new show will take secondary characters that have been introduced on both “The Flash” and “Arrow” and team them up to battle it out with the principal bad guy of this year’s famous crossover event, Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). However, unlike the semi-grounded series that “Legends” is spawned from, it will also feature some more high-concept elements like time travel. In the latest, and likely final, trailer of 2015, some key elements about the show’s makeup were teased giving fans something to look out for when the program debuts on Jan. 21, 2016.
The biggest difference that the “Legends” team has over “Arrow” and “Flash” is that they’ve been tasked with tracking a single villain throughout time in order to stop his almost inevitable rise to world domination in the future. In order to do that, the heroes the Atom (Brandon Routh), the two halves of Firestorm (Victor Garber and Franz Drameh), White Canary (Caity Lotz), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), Hawkman (Falk Henschel), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) will have to travel back in time with their intrepid leader Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill). The new teaser doesn’t show off too much in the way of plot, but it does allow viewers to see the time travel gimmick in full swing as they find themselves in the 1970s. From people’s reaction to seeing metahumans to the very odd fashion statements they make as their alter-egos, it looks like the show won’t skimp out on displaying how far removed from their regular lives these heroes appear to be.
While fans of “The Flash” have a lot of players headed to “Legends,” fans of the show that got the whole connected universe started, “Arrow,” only have two characters joining the hero-packed team, Atom and White Canary. Fortunately, they won’t be disappointed with the below trailer as it focuses heavily on the return of the White Canary and her well-trained assassin skills. While it seems as though her ultra-violent nature and propensity for blades are played for whimsy in the trailer, it may be a bit more sinister than that.
As “Arrow” fans will know, Sara Lance was brought back to life by the Lazarus Pit, which tends to awaken its patients with the caveat that they have an insatiable bloodlust. Executive producer Phil Klemmer told ScreenRant that this quest for bloodshed will be very present in the character’s life, even as she tries to find herself a new love interest.
A Second Villain
Right out of the box, this new superteam has a “very huge problem” in the form of a mechanically armored villain with a really big laser gun. Although their principal villain is Savage, the trailer teases a possible monster-of-the-week bad guy in the form of an unknown assassin/bounty hunter. While he goes unnamed in the trailer, Yahoo TV reports he's the DC Comics villain Chronos. According to the outlet, this villain began his life in the comic books as a villain to Atom. He’s a thief and bounty hunter whose claim to fame is his exceptional internal clock. It’s unclear exactly what kind of impact he’ll have on the team, but it looks like each episode will have them fight off more than just nameless henchmen and Savage, which is welcomed news to fans who enjoy the network’s other two shows for its inclusion of comic book villains.
