Legionella bacteria has been detected in the cooling towers of the Warrnambool Entertainment Centre after tests carried out on Thursay.

The Warrnambool Council says the towers have since been disinfected.

The council is urging visitors to the centre during the past month to visit their GP if they are showing symptoms of legionnaire's disease which is a form of pneumonia .

Symptoms are similar to those suffered during a severe flu, including fever, headaches (often severe), shortness of breath, muscle aches and pains and sometimes a dry cough.
