London has been named the top Fashion Capital of the world for 2011, according to the latest ranking by the Global Language Monitor (GLM).

London has overtaken New York City as the Top Global Fashion Capital for 2011, Austin, Texas-based media analytics company said in a statement on Wednesday, giving the credit to the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton (Kate Middleton) and designer Alexander McQueen, who have had greater impacts in the fashion world and media following in the past one year.

“We are seeing what the impact of two genuine media stars, Princess Kate and Alexander McQueen can have upon a global ranking. Our numbers show that it was their presence that tipped the victory to London over New York,” GLM correspondent told media.

London and New York were followed by Paris, Milano, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. Barcelona, Singapore, Tokyo and Berlin rounded out the top ten, GLM said.
