A man doused himself in acid during a court hearing in London on Monday after learning his prison sentence for fraud offenses, for which he had pleaded guilty.

Marc Marshall, 54, was at the Inner London Crown Court when he poured the acid on his face. He had just been sentenced to two years and four months in prison.

Marshall was treated for his "life-threatening" injuries at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital. And he did not only injure himself, as a female officer also suffered from his actions.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement, "He has been taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition is critical. A female dock officer was also injured by some of the substance. Her injuries are not believed to be serious and she did not require hospital treatment."

A witness told BBC having seen Marshall douse himself with acid, "It looked like he had glue on his skin".

When going to his court hearing, Marshall had been carrying a metal water bottle and possibly sipped on it prior to his sentencing, according to The Guardian.

BBC reports Marshall has previously suffered from medical problems. In 2016, he stabbed himself in the neck when he was arrested by police.
