Lorde hasn’t been in the spotlight for long, but she expertly responded to questions about an alleged fling with American songbird Taylor Swift. The two singers have reportedly become great friends, and when an interviewer insinuated they might be in a gay relationship, the New Zealand teen sensation was more offended about the term he used.

Radio host Kyle Sandilands of KIIS FM seemed like he was trying to get a rise out of Lorde when he first asked if the two singer-songwriters were “together” and then backpedaled. But he might have wanted to put his foot in his mouth. "I see you guys’ pictures everywhere. Are you guys together now?" Sandilands asked (via the Daily Mail). Later he specified, "Not together as in lesbians. I’m not talking about 'Ellen together.' I’m talking about, like you guys are friendly, right?"

More than anything, the term “Ellen together” seemed to have been what really upset the 17-year-old Grammy –winner. The host was referring to openly gay comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who recently hosted the 2014 Oscars.

"What do you mean you’re not talking about 'Ellen together,' is there something wrong with lesbians?" she asked.

"Oh my god no, I would love that!" he exclaimed. "Are you going to confirm now you’re in a lesbian relationship with her?"

"Don’t even try it," Lorde calmly answered.

When Sandilands tried to press her about her connection with the “Red” singer, 24, she remained tightlipped. "Don’t go too overboard explaining the friendship then,” the host sarcastically pushed. "I won’t, believe me,” she answered.

According to Us Weekly, a day before Lorde’s radio interview took place she was seen dancing in the streets of New York with Swift. Though the 24-year-old crooner is single, Lorde has been dating 24-year-old photographer James Lowe since December 2013.
