A man in India allegedly killed his witch-doctor father after suspecting his role in the death of his son.

The police said Wednesday the incident took place in a village in the state of Jharkhand.

The accused reportedly had an argument with his father over a family issue, and nearly two weeks later, the former's son died. The accused suspected his father was behind the death of his son, Medininagar Sub-divisional Police Officer Rishabh Garg told PTI, the Tribune India reported.

On Monday, when the 60-year-old witch-doctor was going out for work, his son and daughter-in-law thrashed him with sticks, leaving him critically injured.

The police said the victim was rushed to Medini Rai Medical College and Hospital, where he died due to his injuries Tuesday, Amarujala reported [Google Translate showed].

Following the death of the man, the couple fled the village. The police then launched a manhunt for the accused. The exact participation of the daughter-in-law in the incident was not immediately clear.

The identities of the accused and the victim were not released by the authorities.

It remains unknown if any charges have been placed against the accused and his wife. Local media and the police did not reveal how the accused's son had died or if any investigation was launched into the death at the time.

In a recent incident, a 17-year-old girl was strangled to death by her stepfather for speaking on the phone late at night. After the murder, the accused turned himself in. The incident took place in the city of Hyderabad in the Indian state of Telangana. The stepfather, identified as Mohammed Taufiq, caught his teenage stepdaughter speaking to someone on the phone. The duo then got into an argument, the police said. The man "noticed his step-daughter speaking over the phone at around 1 am. He immediately snatched away the phone and asked Yasmin to unlock her phone, to which she refused and it led to a quarrel," a police officer told local media.

The fight escalated as the accused suspected his stepdaughter of speaking with a lover or a male friend over the phone. "Toufiq dragged Yasmeen to another room, where he throttled her to death on the suspicion that she was talking to a man," the police officer added. The victim's sister rushed the girl to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
