A Louisiana man has been arrested and held in lieu of a $5 million bond after admitting to decapitating and dismembering his special-needs son.

Jeremiah Wright, 30, killed Jori Lirette, 7, and then disposed of the remains, Thibodaux police chief Scott Silverii said.

A passerby saw the head on the sidewalk and called police, who arrived one minute later, WWLTV reported. The body was in a trash bag nearby.

Jori had cerebral palsy and was confined to a wheelchair. Police said Wright told them he was tired of taking care of the boy.

Jori's mother and Wright's girlfriend of ten years, Jesslyn Lirette, was not home when police arrived on the scene. She was so grief-stricken upon arriving that she had to be hospitalized, WWLTV reported.

"My child is gone, and I cannot replace him," Lirette said, the Houma Courier reported. "He didn't deserve to die."

Lirette's relationship with Wright, her live-in boyfriend, had been on rocky ground for years, friends and family said, according to the Houma Courier.

Police had been to the house one month earlier due a fight between the couple. No one was arrested.

Friends and family also said that Wright and Lirette fought on Saturday night and that Wright was mentally unstable and said he heard voices, the Houma Courier reported.

Thibodaux is a city of less than 15,000 in southeastern Louisiana.
