Manchester City produced a dramatic comeback to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at the Etihad and keep the pressure on Manchester United at the top of the Premier League

City trailed going into the 78th minute through Gary Cahill's second-half strike, but a penalty from Sergio Aguero and a late winner from Samir Nasri secured a crucial three points for the home side.

The result brings City to within a point of United, with both teams now having played the same amount of games.

The headlines before the match were made by Carlos Tevez, who was back on the bench for the first time since the infamous night in Munich last September when he was accused of refusing to come on as a substitute.

The other major team news was that Micah Richards started alongside Kolo Toure in the center of defense, while, for Chelsea, Fernando Torres started in the lone striking role.

Things started brightly early on and Manchester City came close to opening the scoring within the first 10 minutes through Samir Nasri.

A long-ball forward from Kolo Toure found the former-Arsenal midfielder running through but his excellent early lob over the stranded Petr Cech bounced back off the crossbar.

Chelsea were forced into an early change at the back when Jose Bosingwa came on to replace the injured Branislav Ivanovic at right-back in the 23rd minute.

Manchester City should have taken the lead just before the half-hour mark. Frank Lampard's poor pass in midfield was intercepted by Mario Balotelli, who burst through on goal. But the Italian maverick hit a poor shot wide of Cech's post.

And perhaps with that miss in mind, Balotelli was taken off by manager Roberto Mancini at half-time, replaced by Gareth Barry.

Incredibly, City hit the crossbar again after the break. Nasri's cross from the left was heading toward goal before being palmed onto the woodwork by Cech. From the rebound the ball eventually came to David Silva, whose clever effort was deflected wide.

And City were left regretting their near-misses even more when Chelsea took the lead on the hour mark. From a Chelsea corner, Barry was unable to properly clear the ball and Chelsea defender Gary Cahill was on-hand to lash the ball past Joe Hart, courtesy of a deflection off Yaya Toure.

With City desperate for at least one goal to avoid their title challenge derailing, the Citizens turned to Tevez for inspiration off the bench. The controversial Argentinian received a mixed reception from the home fans when he made his arrival on for Nigel de Jong.

And City were able to pull themselves level 12 minutes from time from the penalty spot. From a corner, Pablo Zabaleta hit a powerful shot from the right that was blocked by the hands of Chelsea's Michael Essien and referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot.

Aguero was the man to step-up and the striker struck the ball low to the Cech's right.

The drama did not end there as City snatched a late winner, with the focus of much of the attention, Carlos Tevez, heavily involved. Tevez combined brilliantly with Nasri to allow the Frenchman to run through on goal before producing a delicate finish over Cech.
