A clinical Manchester United proved too strong for Tottenham as they romped to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford to go level on points with neighbours Man City after two games.

Despite creating chances, it was a frustrating first half for United. They had started the game explosively, but as the half went on their attacks became less potent. Spurs saw more of the ball and threatened goal on a couple of occasions, although the scrutinized David De Gea did well to keep out Van der Vart, while making some routine saves.

After the change of ends, United continued pressing. There was a lingering feeling that they'd score sooner rather than later, and so it was. Just past the hour mark, United's fresh-faced players combined as Tom Cleverley's cross was glanced in by Danny Welbeck to open the scoring.

The next goal came on a quick-paced counter which ended with Anderson getting to the end of Welbeck's intelligent back-flick to finish easily.

By the time Wayne Rooney headed Ryan Giggs' cross, with three minutes to go, Spurs seemed to have given up.

It was an all-round performance from United, while their clean sheet will go a long way in boosting the confidence of their Spanish keeper. Sir Alex Ferguson also seems to young gems at his disposal in Cleverley and Welbeck.
