Manchester United reportedly are planning to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes at the ongoing summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old Magalhaes had a great season with Lille as he played a key role in helping the French side finish fourth in Ligue 1, but it is believed that the player wants to leave the club this summer.

Meanwhile, after securing the Champions League spot for the next campaign, Man Utd have boosted their funds for the transfer window, and their boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring more depth to his current squad.

Although Man Utd have made Dortmund midfielder Jadon Sancho as their top target this summer, Solskjaer is also looking to find his captain Harry Maguire a suitable partner at the backline.

According to a report in French media firm RMC Sport, The Red Devils have approached the representatives of Magalhaes over a summer move to the Old Trafford. The report has also revealed that further Man Utd have not made an official offer for Magalhaes, the likes of European giants such as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Napoli are also interested in the services of the defender, who is valued at $29 million by Lille.

According to the English publication Evening Standard, Magalhaes’s team is already in the UK to discuss the transfer with Man Utd, while Everton are also expected to approach them for the same.

Magalhaes, who started his career at Avai, a Brazilian second-tier side, before moving to Lillee in 2017 for a mere fee of $1.9 million. The defender took time to become a regular starter for the French side. Lille sent the Brazilian out loan twice: first to French club Troyes, followed by Dynamo Zagreb during the January window in 2018.

Even when Magalhaes returned to Lille ahead of the 2018-2019 campaign, he made his first Ligue 1 appearance only in February. However, from there, he struck an outstanding partnership with Jose Fonte, thereby making a mark for himself in Lille’s first-team.

After helping Lille qualify for the Champions League for the first time in as many as seven years, it is understood that Magalhaes is looking to find a new challenge elsewhere, most likely in the Premier League.
