The Marxist Party-led alliance is on the verge of losing the mandate to rule Indian state of Kerala, a traditional communist bastion.

Even as ballot counting established stable lead levels, the ruling alliance, the Left democratic Front (LDF) is trailing the Congress-led alliance, the United democratic Front (UDF) in 73 seats of the state legislature. They lead in 67 seats, while Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party leads in two seats.
