Meet 7 New ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Characters

One thing “Star Wars” fans have come to realize is that each new film in the franchise brings new characters. The upcoming sequel, “The Last Jedi,” in theaters Friday, is no exception.

There are quite a few new additions to the franchise this time around and they range from guards to workers to pilots and even to robots. Yes, a new robot is on its way.

Without further ado, let’s all get acquainted before it’s time to head to the theater to see the new flick. Here are the new characters you will see in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”:

DJ (Benicio Del Toro)

Every movie needs a mysterious computer hacker and DJ is that character for “The Last Jedi.”

“This character could come straight out of a Bob Dylan or Tom Waits song, or even a Dostoevsky novel,” Del Toro told Empire. “He’s like something out of Dickens. There have been characters like him in all kinds of literature.”

Though he’s apparently a hacker and not a prized fighter, he’s still someone that others should tiptoe around. “If you grab him by the blade, he’ll cut you,” Del Toro continued. “If you grab him by the handle, he can be very, very useful.”

Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern)

Dern’s character is the strong-willed leader of the Resistance that’s hell-bent on defeating the evil First Order. “She enters the Resistance to shake things up,” Dern told Entertainment Weekly.

Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran)

If the Resistance has something broken or damaged, their mechanic, Rose, will be the one to fix it. Along with this being a new character for the franchise, it’s also a new path for the series as Tran will be the first major “Star Wars” character to be played by an Asian-American woman.

“It's something I think about a lot,” Tran told Buzzfeed. “I just remember growing up and not seeing anyone that looked like me in movies.”

Rose is set to keep the Resistance going by making sure all of their weapons and machines are running, but she’ll also be doing so much more. She’ll be teaming up with Finn (John Boyega) for a mission right in the heart of no-man’s land.

Paige Tico (Veronica Ngo)

While Rose is a mechanic, Paige, her sister, is a Resistance pilot and fighter who gets some lessons from X-Wing flyboy Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).

BB-9E

In “The Force Awakens,” fans met BB-8 and now they’ll meet its dark side, BB-9E in the sequel.

Tallie (Hermione Corfield)

Not much is know about Tallie and how large of a role she’ll have in the film, but she’s a new A-Wing pilot for the Resistance.

Porgs

These are new little creatures from the planet Ahch-To that viewers are sure to fall in love with.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will introduce all of these new characters when it hits theaters Friday.
