Actor Michael Jace has been detained for questioning by Los Angeles Police Department, or LAPD, after his wife, April Jace, was shot dead Monday night at their Los Angeles home.

“The Shield” actor’s wife was reportedly found dead with gunshot wounds on her body at their Hyde Park neighborhood home, and according to TMZ, Jace called the police himself to report the death of his wife, a mother of three, and told the police, "I shot my wife." The neighbors reportedly told the LAPD that they had heard gunshots.

"It looks to have started as a domestic-related incident," a police official told Los Angeles Times, adding that detectives are investigating whether the incident was an accidental shooting or a homicide.

Police officials also reportedly said that the couple's children were in the house at the time of the shooting, and have been placed in protective custody.

The 48-year old actor has not been arrested on any charges so far and officials reportedly said that details of the case could not be revealed until the ongoing investigation is completed.

Jace and his wife, Alice, were married for 10 years, and the actor was previously married to Jennifer Bitterman before divorcing her in 2002.

Jace is known for his role as a police officer on the crime drama, "The Shield." He also starred in television drama “Southland” and did guest appearances on shows such as “Burn Notice” and “The Mentalist.”
