Michael Strahan, former football star and current “Live! with Kelly and Michael” co-host, is close to finalizing a deal to join ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Daily News reported Tuesday, citing a source.

According to reports, the 42-year-old former New York Giants defensive end is expected to appear on the top-rated morning show in a part-time capacity while continuing to work on "Live! with Kelly and Michael," after ABC News executives were reportedly pleased with his performance as a substitute for Robin Roberts last year when she was sick.

"They're on the verge of signing the deal," a source told the Daily News. "It could be announced this week."

The talks about Strahan joining the “GMA” team began a month ago when long-time anchor Josh Elliott announced he was leaving the ABC show to work with NBC Sports. ABC News President Ben Sherwood reportedly announced Amy Robach as Elliott's replacement, on Sunday.

According to E! News, in an e-mail sent to the ABC News division's staff, Sherwood said: "As many of you know, we have been negotiating with Josh these past several months."

"In good faith, we worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations. In the end, Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path," he continued. "I want to thank Josh for his many contributions to GMA and ABC News. Later in the week, we will bid him farewell."

The network is yet to confirm the news of Strahan’s deal with “GMA.”
