Microsoft announced Monday that its Windows Marketplace app store is now available on Windows Mobile 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.1 devices.

When Windows Mobile 6.5 first launched last month, users were already able to purchase third-party applications. Even before this on-device software store debuted, Microsoft said it would be available for earlier versions of this operating system.

Users can download Marketplace directly onto a Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1 at mp.windowsphone.com.

On a PC, this app can be downloaded from windowsphone.com/getmarketplace.

Microsoft also noted that it has over 1000 software vendors registered to date, and that there are more than 800 registered applications in the pipeline.
