Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella of Monaco celebrated their first birthday on Thursday. The royal twins celebrated their birthday spending “family time” with their parents, though the couple had official engagements in the morning. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene wanted to ensure that the tots enjoy their time on their special day.

The doting father had told in an interview with People that the couple might take their tots to a school in the morning. He added that the rest of the day, he had kept aside for his family. The birth of the twins was announced with church bells ringing and 21 cannon shots fired for each child on Dec. 10, 2014.

The 57-year-old had also told in the interview that like any other father, he would like to click pictures and shoot a movie of the kids. The father-of-two said the twins’ birthday will be celebrated with less fanfare and would be more of a private event from the coming years. He said that he had not thought of any gifts for Jacques and Gabriella.

The Monegasque royal gushed about his wife Charlene, saying that the mother woke up at 6 a.m. with the kids and sailed them through the entire day on Friday. He told in another interview with People that he was proud of Charlene’s parenting skills.

Earlier he had told that at 11 months, the twins were leaning to walk. Albert keeps royal fans and public updated about his kids and their progress.

Meanwhile, the former South African swimmer in an interview with Paris Match in July said that Jacques is “a real boss.” She added that the tot only needed some sleep and then he looked all around. Charlene said he was observant and developed a protective side towards his sister Gabriella.

The 37-year-old told that Gabriella had “a real princess attitude,” liked pink color and did not like ‘no for an answer.

The Monaco royal twins made their first public appearance at the traditional presentation from the balcony of Monte Carlo’s Princely Palace just after New Year. Their second public appearance was for their christening in May. The tots were then pictured at the tenth anniversary of Albert’s accession to the throne.

Known as Prince Jacques Honoré Rainier and Princess Gabriella Thérèse Marie, the twins are lovingly called “the bah-bahs” by their parents in private.
