More than half of Americans believe that the economy is still in recession and are less confident on the improvement in the nation’s economic conditions over the next few months, a new CBS News poll showed.

The poll showed that 57 percent of respondents think that the US economy is still in recession, while only 37 percent think the recession is nearly over.

The National Bureau of Economic Research had concluded that the most recent economic recession ended in June 2009.

Also, 60 percent of Americans expressed little confidence that the economy would improve over the next few months.

However, the poll found that 60 percent of respondents are confident about their own finances compared with 47 percent two year ago.

While 22 percent think that the economy is getting worse, 45 think that it remains the same.

Nearly six in 10 Americans are at least somewhat concerned that they or someone else in their household would be out of work and looking for a job within the next 12 months.
